Cotoneaster bullatus
I am considering using Cotoneaster bullatus in an exposed dry place for summer flower, autumn leaf colour and berries. Soil ph about 7.5, clay.
I have seen the profile on RHS Plant selector, looked at all the books and have spoken to a nursery about buying a multi stemmed shrub.
The more people I speak to about this tree the more I realize that it is not used much anymore and that it is not available generally in garden centres.
Is this because it is out of fashion?
Does it sucker?
Is it especially suseptible to Fireblight?
Is it particularly dull when neither in flower or fruit?
or has it been superceded by a better doer?
Do you have a picture of a mature specimen- something else I can't find.
Can anyone help me answer these questions?
Thank you. Kate

Cestrum Cutting
Can anyone help me with a cutting of a plant that I am finding difficult to buy. Its Cestrum nocturnum (Dame de Noche), I appreciate that it is a tender plant but it is also the worlds most scented plant. Chiltern Seeds have sold the seed before but have not had any in stock for sometime. We are having an Orangery built and would like to start off stocking it with this as a centre piece.

Sooty Mould
I have a couple of dozen Rhodendron shrubs and half a dozen camellias, which have been infected with black sooty mould. I have tried to remove the mould using a jet wash without much success as the mould is well and truly encrusted to the leaves. Before I resort to cleaning each leave by hand, does anyone know of any preparation that will loosen the mould so that it may be washed off more easily? Thankyou in anticipation,

Weed Control
At Ryes Gardens, there are two main types of weed living in the meadow grass, the soil is heavy clay, slightly shady, surrounded by trees, chestnuts, laurels, sycamores, yews, and various shrubs. What is the best weedkiller to eradicate these difficult creeping weeds, being prunella and creeping buttercup?
Thanks, Michael Ruse. mjruse@hotmail.co.uk
