PGG Ireland
The formation of an Irish branch of the PGG began to take shape in 1995. We currently have over 40 members spread throughout the island of Ireland.
Since 1995 we have visited more than 30 different gardens north and south, held training days, organised 3 day garden tours and hosted a PGG AGM here. All gardeners are welcome to join us. Most members who participate regularly in our meetings are Gardeners or Head Gardeners in private estates. This can often mean that on our seasonal visits to gardens we mostly visit private gardens that are otherwise not open for viewing, so we get to see behind the walls in private estates. These visits are very enjoyable social occasions; moreover they are hugely beneficial in facilitating the sharing of useful information on a wide range of topics related to garden making.
Our primary activity is our seasonal gatherings, usually four over the year. We plan them in such a way that they rotate around the country, more or less on a provincial basis. Our winter meeting tends to be in the Dublin area.
Details of forthcoming meetings are published in the quarterly magazine, the Professional Gardener, and on the Diary page on this website. In the future we hope to set up and run an apprenticeship programme similar to that currently run by the PGG in Scottish and English gardens. We also plan to continue organising training days for members in work related subjects.
