The Professional Gardeners' Guild Traineeship.

The PGG provides successful candidates to its Traineeship Scheme with the opportunity to gain ‘hands on' practical experience, working as part of the team of three major gardens throughout the country. Trainees will spend a year in each garden, developing practical experience in a wide ange of areas. In-house training focuses on plantsmanship, pruning, garden equipment, seasonal planting schemes and glasshouse skills. Complimentary training will be provided where appropriate by local colleges; this may include the safe use and application of pesticides and herbicides, tractor driving and other craft development skills.

Unlike other similar schemes, the PGG Traineeship scheme endeavours to place trainees in a suitable position through the employment liaison officer. Trainees who have completed the scheme have all found challenging jobs; the experience and skills gained whilst on the Traineeship have contributed to their success.

Participating gardens include Osborne house on the Isle of Wight, The Garden House in Devon, Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire, Chatsworth in Derbyshire, Ashridge in Hertfordshire and the National Botanic Garden of Wales.

Applicants should have had two years previous practical experience of gardening and be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to developing a career in practical gardening.
