PGG Workshop – Management of mature and ancient trees in the landscape

The workshop will take place in the grounds and gardens of Burghley House, hosted by the head forester Pete Glassey. Pete will draw on some of his 35 years of experience managing Burghley’s diverse tree landscape to inform, educate and inspire on the subject of mature and ancient tree management in the landscape.

Programme

9.00am – Meet in the visitor car park at Burghley House. Tea and coffee on arrival.
4.00pm – Approximate course finish.
Workshop includes:

  • visual tree inspection and identification of defects
  • understanding tree risk management, data collection and strategy successes and failures, and lessons learnt in the ancient tree landscape of Burghley House park and gardens.

Directions

Burghley is one mile from Stamford and 20 minutes north of Peterborough on the A1.
Please be aware that some Sat Nav systems provide incorrect directions using the postcode PE9 3JY; we recommend following these directions.
From the south: Take the Stamford B1081 exit on the A1 signposted to Burghley House, turn left on to the B1081 towards Stamford. Follow the road alongside the estate wall and continue past the impressive Bottle Lodges gates down towards Stamford town. Turn right just past the Bull & Swan Pub and continue for one mile along Barnack Road (B1443). You will see the Visitors’ Entrance on the right.
From the north: Follow the A1 south past Doncaster and Grantham. Approximately 30 minutes south of Grantham you will reach the Stamford junction (B1081), signposted to Burghley House. Turn left towards Stamford. Follow the road past the estate wall and continue past the impressive Bottle Lodges gates towards Stamford town. Turn right just past the Bull & Swan Pub and continue for one mile along Barnack Road (B1443). You will see the Visitors’ Entrance on the right.

Cost

£20.00 per person, tea and coffee on arrival included. Suggest bring a packed lunch (food options are available on site at both the Orangery restaurant and garden café).
