Five Gardens in Kerry – Day 1
The Austen Garden
Set in rural mountain surroundings, This three acre garden is of all year-round interest. Magnolias, rhododendrons, unusual trees, roses, woodland and boardwalk to wild bog.
Cost of entry is €8 to charity.
Garinish Island
First planted in the late 19th century by The Earl of Dunraven. Woodland garden with rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, magnolias, tree ferns. It has a good collection of southern hemisphere plants, fruit and vegetable garden, herbaceous borders.
Free entry.
Derrynane National Park
The gardens are a small part of the 120 hectares that make up the National Historic Park. They include a collection of South American trees and shrubs, some of which are endangered in the wild. Plants from New Zealand, South Africa, Canary Islands and Madeira, some of which are tender, thrive in the mild climate.
