PGG visit to Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery, Eskdalemuir and Westerhall gardens, Dumfries and Galloway
Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery
Founded in 1967 the Centre is located in a peaceful valley on the banks of the river Esk in Scotland. Kagyu Samye Ling was the first Tibetan Buddhist Centre to have been established in the West.
Samye Ling is a monastery and international centre of Buddhist training, known for the authenticity of its teachings and tradition. It offers instruction in Buddhist philosophy and meditation within the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. It is also a centre for the preservation of Tibetan religion, culture, medicine, art, architecture and handicrafts.
Eskdalemuir and Westerhall Gardens
Westerhall contains an extensive collection of azaleas, rhododendrons, rare shrubs and mature trees set in a landscape of follies, sculpture and stunning vistas. The redesigned walled garden contains a glasshouse with some exotic plants which have been collected from around the world.
Programme
10.00 am – We will meet in the car park at Kagyu Samye Ling car-park. Head to the tearoom for tea, coffee etc. I’m hoping that the Head Gardener, Tony Freck, is going to be our guide, though this is not confirmed yet.
After lunch we head to Westerhall gardens. PGG member and Head Gardener Grant Moir will keep us right on directions.
