PGG visit to Lytes Cary Manor and Tintinhull Garden
Lytes Cary Manor
Lytes Cary Manor is an intimate medieval manor house with a beautiful Arts and Crafts-style garden containing a magical collection of topiary and herbaceous borders, croquet lawn and orchard. In the Apostle Garden the pathway towards the main entrance of the house is lined with 12 yew trees known as the Apostles. This is possibly a religious connection from the previous owners, Sir Walter and Lady Flora Jenner, who planted the trees 110 years ago.
Tintinhull Garden
Created last century around an attractive 17th-century manor house, Tintinhull Garden is one of the most harmonious small gardens in Britain. It features secluded lawns, pools and imaginative borders. There is the Eagle Court, Middle Garden, Fountain Garden, Pool Garden, Cedar Court, Kitchen Garden and Arboretum. In Eagle Court the use of particular plants and colours combine the best of Phyllis Reiss and Penelope Hobhouse, who both contributed to the design of the garden.
