PGG AGM weekend – PGG visit to Mellerstain

PGG Scotland member Susan Russell has arranged some other visits for the AGM weekend –

“I have arranged a visit to Mellerstain with a tour from our member there Gordon Low.

Mellerstain House

Mellerstain was built between 1725 and 1778. The house stands in 80 hectares of parkland, with an Italianate formal terraced garden at the rear, with a sweeping stretch of lawn descending to a lake. These gardens were designed around 1910 by Sir Reginald Blomfield.

The wide sweep of garden terraces and parkland were superimposed on an axial design of William Adam. Formal bedding, running down to a lake with views of the Cheviots; cottage ornee (1825) and woodlands dating from Lady Grizel Baillie’s 1725 improvements.

1998 HHA/Christies Garden of the Year Award joint winner.
