PPG visit to Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens
Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens is situated on the Isle of Anglesey, close to the picturesque town of Menai Bridge. The Menai Straits can be crossed by the historic Thomas Telford’s Manai Suspension Bridge, spectacular views of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park.
The gardens have been lovingly restored by the current owner Anthony Tavernor and started in 1996. Entering the gardens from the outbuildings there is a large wooden gate into opening into the stunning walled garden. The eye is drawn down the centre path to a large pond parted lawn with pyramidal yew (Taxus baccata) topiary. The walls are decoratively fan trained fruit, stunning double herbaceous borders, and Georgian house on one side. Exiting the garden through a tunnel into the woodland down to the meandering pathway to the stream and waterfall. There are rocky outcrops and ferns in a semi shaded occasionally light filtering through which encapsulate Hydrangeas in flower. The pathway continues upward to the remains of a 19th century folly. Plas Cadnant is the winner of National Garden scheme -Public Gardens Winner.
