Stockton Bury Gardens
Stockton Bury is a four-acre garden, created 45 years ago by Raymond Treasure and Gordon Fenn, wrapped around some stunning medieval farm buildings. Both men were inspired by Raymond’s relative, the late John Treasure (well known for his garden at Burford House near Tenbury Wells) and their friend, the late plantsman Christopher Lloyd. It is a highly acclaimed garden offering the visitor both relaxation and inspiration in equal measure. Here you will find a working Victorian kitchen garden, water garden and a series of formal borders and island beds full of many rare and unusual plants.
Raymond’s nieces, Tamsin Westhorpe and Connie Marston, joined the family team a few years ago. Tamsin has previously been deputy editor of Amateur Gardening magazine and Editor of The English Garden magazine. Tamsin now spends time in the garden and writes freelance alongside her role as an RHS Judge.
Westonbury Mill Water Gardens
These five-acre gardens are set around the Curl Brook on mainly level ground. There are grassed pathways with numerous bridges criss-crossing the tangle of streams and ponds and a mass of colourful moisture- loving plants, shaded by a backdrop of mature trees and shrubs.
You will see a two-metre high Moon Gate set within a newly laid beech hedge which will lead you to the first of the new gardens planned for the coming years. The gardens are well known for their unique follies and have received a lot of publicity on national TV and in the media. There are now three follies, all very large, very different and ‘completely useless but we hope they will amuse you as you amble through the garden’. One of these, a seven-meter high water-powered cuckoo clock is worth the visit on its own.
