Monkton Farleigh Manor
Keen gardener required to enjoy a variety of work in a pleasant rural setting.
Gardener Needed For West Country Manor House and Grounds
Monkton Farleigh Manor is a Grade 1 listed property, 3 miles from Bradford-on-Avon and 6 miles from Bath and is the centre of a 1500-acre wildlife friendly mixed farm and Estate.
The garden consists of formal lawns, hedges and flower beds, a rose garden, a lily pond, a Grotto and fernery and various wilder areas. There is a walled kitchen garden with both walled fruit and a soft fruit cage and two greenhouses with 4 trees being apricot, peaches and a nectarine. There is an active vegetable patch run on a “no dig” basis. The rest of the area is rough mown but certainly has potential. There is also a traditional Orchard, grazed by cattle in the summer, and an apple house. This is an opportunity for a keen gardener to enjoy a variety of work in a pleasant rural setting.
The role
It is principally a Single Gardener’s post with occasional help from Estate staff. It is a hands on position for an enthusiastic person who is happy to work independently, in conjunction with the Owner. The garden is not open to the General Public, but very occasional charitable events can take place, including the annual Village Fete.
Occasionally work is required helping with firewood and other Estate properties and the village churchyard.
The package
This is a Salaried position following the Professional Gardener’s Guild recommendations, based on skills and experience, with a Pension plan if wanted. Cottage accommodation is available with the job.
