The package
Beautiful small established estate close to London requires a responsible, mature, reliable head gardener. Gross Salary proposed is £60,000 from which will be deducted either £2,000 pcm for a large 2/3 bedroom cottage or £500 pcm for a small studio flat. Both are new and fully insulated and comfortable with heat pumps etc.
We have herbaceous borders and shrubberies, extensive lawns, a large and diverse orchard, herb garden and greenhouse. We are continually adding to our collection of interesting shrubs and fruit trees as the climate warms up. We have government grants to plant woodlands on 30 acres and you could help with that if interested. We have two horses so, should you or your partner wish to help with those, it would be much appreciated and can be separately remunerated.
There could be work for a spouse/partner if desired. There is housekeeping or help with my design business – www.degournay.com – or help with my hydrogen business – www.humblehydrogen.com both of which would be exciting opportunities for the right person. A vehicle could be made available for local travel.
The role
The successful applicant would be expected to maintain the machinery – robotic mower + Dennis for grass tennis court + strimmer + chainsaws and welder and ride-on mower amongst other kit. I particularly like people to work in an extremely ordered and tidy way.
Your skills
A good knowledge of plants, soils, diseases, treatments, pruning, grafting and propagating is required. Good references are also required. You would be welcome to sub-contract some elements to others if and when required.
